Clifford made a statement to police and was booked into the jail awaiting charges for first and third-degree assault.

I can't really believe that, though. The description sounds like assault causing bodily harm or aggravated assault, since punching someone doesn't normally lead to surgery and a ventilator.

That says a little more than common assault. It makes me wonder if the SWAT guy curbed him.
