(1,245 posts)I'm a little bit worried, to be honest. But my usual response to worries is to look for solutions. So around election day, I'll be ready to "shelter in place" or evacuate.
Our apartment complex has quite a few Hispanic and Indian residents, in an area near Quail Hollow and Southpark Mall, and probably more right-wing than left. (The only Trump signs I've seen are just down the road). If somebody was targeting immigrants, they might see this as a good place to attack, but I doubt that the homeowners in this neighborhood would damage their property values by starting a riot. Of course somebody from outside might.
So, my wife and I have increased our awareness of who is around, bought a can of pepper spray (I ruled out a gun, I don't want to kill anybody; all I want is to encourage them to leave us alone), and have a plan in place to evacuate ourselves and our dogs quickly if needed. I try to keep extra non-perishable food and water around anyway. This little bit of "prepper" comes from living for years in Boone, NC, where it is possible to get seriously snowed-in, and from growing up in very rural conditions as a child.
We always keep one car maintained and gassed-up, and we have a good route (away from major roads) planned to a relative's house in the suburbs. But people who don't have somewhere else to go... I would worry about them if things got really out of hand. Hopefully the police and National Guard will be on the side of civilization.
