That and improving medical technology. I don't know how much money he has spent out of his own pocket, but if your insurance is good enough, you can get amazing treatment without spending much of your own money.

I say this because I've seen it in my own family. One of my immediate family members is roughly the same age as Cheney and has had serious heart problems for a long time now (though not as long as Cheney has). He's been in and out of the hospital many times and if you added up all of the surgeries, medication, and other types of care, the price tag would be in the hundreds of thousands at the very least. If he had been born 50 years earlier or didn't have insurance, he would not have lived to the age he is now.

So I think the insurance plays a very big role here.
