In reply to the discussion: Trump stews in bitterness as he’s shunned, while Hill is feted [View all]Hekate
(100,133 posts)Possibly I was distracted by Maria Bartiromo's continual texting and dangly earrings.
In any case, talking warmly about Al Smith being nominated by the Democratic Party ("my party" as she put it) to be the first Roman Catholic to get the presidential nom -- that was Hillary.
Discussing the crapload of anti-Catholic bigotry that went on display (the Holland Tunnel was a Papist plot to give the Pope access to ruling America once Smith was elected, among other juicy tidbits), that was left to Hillary to subtly indicate that mindless bigotry is nothing new.
Noting the multi-ethnic elites of New York gathering in goodhearted unity to support the work of Catholic Charities -- well, that was Hillary draining the poison out of the room.
On consideration, she could have completely ignored Trump instead of giving him a few quick jabs. He had already wrecked the entire occasion -- and by the time she had finished her piece, everyone in the audience was crystal clear about who was really on their side, and who was the barbarian growling and beating his chest.
