I won't use the term "silly," but there are very many things more statistically likely.

I was not far from Nice when that guy drove a truck through a crowd. Now, there were thousands of people in that crowd. Even if I was in that crowd, the chances of being hurt were low. But even being miles away, and even though nobody in France was freaking out, I received an avalanche of messages from people in the US asking if I was okay.

There are thousands and thousands of tourists in DC on any given day. The odds of being in the right place at the right time - even if someone where to do some random shooting - are very low. People are shot in DC just about every day under normal circumstances.

However, some 35,000 people die in auto accidents each year - a little under 100 every day. Are you concerned about driving?
