There are a couple in my extended family. It's to the point, when they start spewing their dishonest, bigoted hateful bullshit, that I explain to them the following:

1. I don't go to church.
2. I don't belong to an organized religion.
3. I don't give one damn dime to any religion or preacher.
4. I don't talk about the "lessons of the Bible."

Yet I do:

1. Give money to the poor.
2. Donate time to the homeless.
3. Have a long history of rescuing animals - we have a rescue dog right now.
4. Volunteer coaching kids soccer and other things.

So I tell them that they need to STFU since I live a whole lot more like Jesus than any of them. I also don't hate:

1. Brown people
2. Poor people
3. People who aren't American
4. Gay folks
5. Women

Or basically anyone not exactly like them. And neither did Jesus.

That always shuts them the fuck up. I'm beyond tired of them, and Maher had it exactly right - a whole lot of these people have no freaking principles or beliefs whatsoever - they just use "Jesus" as an excuse to act like horrible people Monday-Saturday, go to church on Sunday and proclaim themselves cleanses of sin. Fuck off.
