In reply to the discussion: How To Deal With Trump Supporters On Thanksgiving [View all]hamsterjill
(17,636 posts)58. That's absolutely right.
But I think I was still of the mindset of trying to "go high". I knew she needed a sounding board at times, etc.
I'm no longer capable of handling that now that she has admitted to supporting that monster, nor am I interested in putting forth any effort when I run into these types. "Going high" for me from now on is going to mean avoiding the negative. As I said in an earlier post, I don't want to fight with them. Don't want the drama or the expense of energy. I just don't want to be around them.
Hope your Thanksgiving will be enjoyable!

I have almost the same situation you describe going on minus the disengagement (so far).

I am not convinced AT ALL that we will survive a Trump Presidency with our democracy intact.

In as calm a voice as possible, I'm going to say that I don't want to talk about the election.

I say no drinking, or stay home. Drinking makes things much worse and more hostile. They call it
