(20,317 posts)We aren't doing ourselves any favors by clouding the definition of this 'alt-right' label. It's not a synonym for 'Neo-Nazi'. This is one of those frogs/toads situations... all frogs are toads, but not all toads are frogs.
'Alt-right' is an umbrella term for a mostly online phenomenon that's risen up in the last few years, and appeals mostly to younger people who feel their concerns aren't addressed by the political establishment. There's a whole range of groups that self-identify as 'alt-right'. They're mostly right-wing or libertarian causes, and may or or may not have anything to do one another.
I'm seeing a lot of people try to shove this decidedly idiosyncratic, square peg into the political round holes they're used to. It just doesn't work.
