(6,130 posts)to muster the will to fight when your hopes have been dashed. Going back to 2000 and 2004 we know the sting of defeat. Obama's Election and re-election raised our hopes that the U.S. was evolving into a fairer, better nation. But we've spent the last 8 years watching a good, decent and competent leader be disrespected to his face and stymied at every attempt to move this country forward. Meanwhile, the folks on the opposite side were biding their time and plotting their next move. I don't believe Trump was their candidate of choice but once he was their nominee, they made a conscious decision to work with him and see if they could pull the strings to get some if not all of what they want. And Trump is clearly paying them off handsomely.
So where does that leave those of us who were horrified and terrified of a Trump presidency?? I don't even know where to start to fight. We can get together on this site and in our living rooms with like minded friends, but what do we do? Who will lead us? How do we fight against something so massive as the takeover of our governing bodies? We are out numbered in all branches of the government. Until we get someone who understands what has happened (and no, it didn't happen in just the last 18 months) and how to re-balance the leadership, there will be many like me who want to help but don't even know where to start. And yes, some of us feel hopeless enough that leaving seems more rational and practical than hanging around to engage in a fight that feels like we've already lost.
