Considerations have to include quality of life, climate, health care, ease of travel, visas, language, etc..
Realistically, some of those factors can be quite favorable for expats, particularly health care which has deteriorated in the US into prescription drug dependence.
Panama is a good alternative that checks most of the boxes. Mexico as well in some locations. Europe is a bit dodgy right now with a similar nationaist, racist movement fermenting in many western European countries. Canada is a long-term standby but they have rather strict immigration standards and it's way too cold for this boy.
Substantial research is required and it's best to rent for a while until you have found a new home.
Point is, it can be done. The US just isn't all that anymore.
