(9,527 posts)There will be elections in 2018 and 2020. It won't be a dictator's election. This is the same hysteria that some Republicans pushed about Obama in 2008 and some here said about Bush in 2000 about future elections. And yet elections still happened and different people won.
All that stuff about not recognizing the country, have you not read history? Like every other country, we have a long history of poor judgement. But we have grown and push toward progress over time.
In a decade we went from Republicans putting same sex marriage bans on the ballot to drive turnout to voters rejecting those bans to the Supreme Court declaring marriage equality the law of the land.
We've become aware as a society of the impact of police violence on minority communities. We've begun addressing sentencing disparities. Stop and frisk has been found unconstitutional.
We have way more work to do, but there is always more work to do. The path to justice isn't easy and it's not linear.
We went from having two black Senators during Reconstruction and then only two after that through 2005. We've had 4 elected in the last 11 years (and 2 more appointed as interim Senators).
Change is the only constant, even if it is slow.
