(3,146 posts)Sadly many naive but well meaning folks think that Fascism will just magically be voted away. Generally there two ways to rid a country of the fascist parasite: revolution or destruction.
It took bombing Germany nearly into the Stone Age to drive out the fascists and a full scale invasion of Italy to do the same.
Even in instances where fascists give up power it's never completely. Pinochet got a lifetime Senate appointment and control of the military in exchange for "graciously" stepping down after losing the popular vote. Francisco Franco in Spain directed that power go to Prince Juan Carlos upon HIS DEATH. Even then the entrenched fascists in the military and police attempted coups to stop the transition to democracy.
Speaking of Chile and Spain look at the nostalgia that is bubbling up for the old regimes. That wistful backward glance toward's the time when the generalissimo ran things and "when we had good paying jobs, there was no crime and people knew their place."
Ring any bells?
It may take the USA crashing and burning before people wake up to what has happened to them. That hangover ain't gonna be pretty.
