23. Pandora's Box right there...

Trump, his cabinet, his supporters, indeed the whole of modern conservative thought both here and abroad represent an existential threat to the continued viability of not just US democracy but all of Western democracy. Their views on governing have become so warped these last few decades that one wonders which side of a sword or musket the Founding Fathers would place them on.

We are fast reaching a tipping point and could well see the end of the Great Experiment, ripped apart by sectarian violence cleaved along partisan lines. We've been very fortunate these past 240+ years that we've not experienced quite the same level of internal strife that most nations have throughout history. Perhaps our luck is running out. Some people fantasize about revolution, but the reality is bloody and awful. When academics, peaceful protestors, or even just citizens demanding their rights be respected equally are viewed and treated the same as criminals, terrorists and traitors by those with power and wealth, thousands of years of history shows it does not end well for anyone. This is a lesson Humanity never learns and unfortunately, we now live in a deeply interconnected world. I had hoped I wouldn't live to see the day it all comes crashing down again. I fear I will.
