(156,630 posts)The recovery is long.........months long. Lots of PT.
I am so glad I did it. My left knee was bone on bone too, and damn but it hurt. I had trouble standing or walking. After the surgery, those problems vanished. It was months, maybe most of a year, before I felt normal.
But it was worth it!
With my right knee now, it just recently got pretty bad, even with the steroid shots. I realized that my life was miserable with this pain, and I told my ortho doc that enough was enough, and let's just replace it! He was fine with it.
I really didn't put it off at all. I remembered how bad my left knee got before we operated, and I didn't want to go through that again. I know I will recover again and even though it's going to hurt for a while, it will ultimately pay off. I'm really tired of limping around like an old woman!
You should seriously do it. Your life will be on hold for several months but you will feel so much better. The post-op pain is readily handled with judicious use of narcotics. Best of luck to you!
