That's the crux of the matter. The media has never been about anything other than selling things to the public. Where we are screwed at is that the reporter and journalist no longer exists in a form free of the influence of media. The average "reporter" doesn't give a whit about journalistic integrity because it doesn't sell and it won't further their career in "media".

There was a time Trump would have been roasted to the point of being ashen for his actions by the nations print journalists. For a short while the news on television was an arm of print news and as such aimed for the same sort of journalistic integrity. This was all well and good until they found out the "news" could be monetized and that American's had become fundamentally disinterested in anything other than being entertained.

I don't know when or why the shift happened, I'm no historian , but it tied in nicely with a renewed wave of anti-intellectualism that has been sloshing around in the undercurrent of this country for a long, long, LONG time. For lack of a better word, the American populace is collectively dumber than a box of rocks, apathetic, uniformly uninformed and readily manipulated by those that know how to key in on all of it for profit and gain.

In short, Trump gets love from the right, hate from the left and ratings dollars for the media. It's too bad we'll all be burnt to a crisp by the time they figure out it's a disservice to the world to run things the way they are.
