The AF1s are specially outfitted. I believe they must be able to stay in the air for at least several days should some catastrophic event hit the US. There's probably a lot more that's unknown to the public.

Here's another thing that most people don't know. When a part fails, it's not replaced with a repaired component, the replacement part is brand new - always.

AF1s and Marine1s (the helicopters) are basically unique aircraft. You don't go down to the local Walmart and pick one up off the shelf.
