Showing Original Post only (View all)Nordstrom Is Selling a Rock in a Leather Pouch for $85 and the Internet Is Very Confused [View all]

One Nordstrom product has customers scratching their heads.
With holiday season here, Nordstrom is offering what it calls a Leather Wrapped Stone for $85 much to the confusion of the Internet.
Ummm its just a rock? In a pouch? Is it from somewhere special at least ie the moon . somewhere, anywhere? one person tweeted.
The piece is billed as a Los Angeles-area stone wrapped in rich, vegetable-tanned American leather. And its use is up to the buyer.

This is a rock. It has leather knickers. It costs $85 at Nordstrom. This is entirely normal.

No One Can Figure Out Why Nordstrom Is Selling a Rock in a Case for $85
That's one expensive rock.

It's that time of the year where we're all on the hunt for the absolutely perfect holiday gifts for all of our friends and family, and Nordstrom seems to have the solution: On the company's website, one can purchase a "Medium Leather Wrapped Stone" by the brand Made Solid for a cool $85, Buzzfeed points out. To clarify, that's a rock, swathed in a leather case, and it costs $85.
If you're confused, you're not alone. Here's a quick recap of what we know about the rock: It's from California, and it can literally be used for anything.
The item's description reads, "A paperweight? A conversation piece? A work of art? It's up to you, but this smooth Los Angeles-area stonewrapped in rich, vegetable-tanned American leather secured by sturdy contrast whipstitchingis sure to draw attention wherever it rests. A traditional hardening process gives the leather a beautiful ombré effect."

Though the pouch is cut and created by Made Solid, an L.A.-based leather product company, a Nordstrom rep told BuzzFeed only Mother Earth can take credit for rocks. So to be clear, the rocks came from the ground.
Co-founder of Made Solid Peter Maxwell told Cosmopolitan.com the wrap (which is a collaboration with artist Cristy Pitoc) has become one of the companys most popular items since its 2014 creation and that this is the second time its been featured at Nordstrom, the first to garner this much attention though.
As for the pouch price? He [knows] the comments are going nuts right now, but he emphasized: Its a high-end vegetable tanned leather, meaning its all natural and darkens with age. The technique is labor intensive. Each piece is made by hand by stretching the leather, shrinking it, sewing, and finishing. This isnt a simple pocket of machine-stitched cheap leather that a rock was jammed into.

Makes as much sense as the tattered jeans with holes and torn tights being sold at premium prices
