(58,785 posts)a point where two people are involved. That point occurs several months before completion of gestation. How to determine is a huge question, but to me it would be about brain development. After that point for no reason except to protect the mother's physical health, to abort a fetus that can never become a person, or to protect a child who cannot live much beyond birth from suffering.
And, yes, in an imperfect world, no point is truly definitive (except for those who'd set it at conception), but if we must err, let's do it on the earlier side to protect the rights of those who cannot speak or vote for their own right to live.
Sorry if you don't like that. But whether someone regards pregnancy as a beautiful miracle or a parasite turning its host into a slave, at some point this becomes all about two people, both endowed with inalienable rights to life, etc.
