know that I strongly believe that the collapse of global civilization from ecological disruption is both imminent and inevitable. I think we're well past the point of no return. But worse than that, I'm also convinced that the longer we keep up Business as Usual, the more horrific and devastating the final collapse will be. I believe that the only way to mitigate the looming horror is to collapse sooner rather than later.

Back well before the election when it looked like Trumpism was gaining steam, I tried to make a sarcastic silk purse out of the orange sow's ear. I suggested that his election would at least increase the chances of an early collapse of global civilization, and thereby mitigate some of the truly awful possibilities of the ecological end-game. I point to Pruitt's nomination as evidence that my nightmare is already in play.

Do I approve? As a human being of course not. As a representative of the broader community of life on this planet, with a view of millions of years rather than of a single election cycle ... maybe it will have some long-term redeeming value. Just not for us.
