But no, that would be a completely different situation. Her JOB is to protect the kids so no, just sitting there calmly is not the best thing to do when kids are bullying another kid.

What I would have done - if this was a kid being bullied and I was the monitor ---- I would have first separated the kid being bullied from the gang bullying him. Move him closer to the front of the bus, as close to the driver as possible. If necessary, I would have asked the driver to call the school or the bus company (or 911, depending on how serious the physical bullying was). Then I would have walked back to where the bullies were sitting and stood there in the aisle, making them have to go through me to get to the kid they are bullying. As each of the bullies got off the bus, I would have walked as closely to them as possible and made sure my body was between the bully leaving the bus and the kid being bullied.

Then I would have have written a detailed report to give to the school and the bus company (or the police).

I can tell you for sure if this happened where I teach, those kids wouldn't be riding the bus to school again for a LONG time.
