Hyperconnectivity has been a huge force in reducing pay rates for the working class. It has led to outsourcing of jobs to cheap labor countries, for one. Plus it also helps with automation, which has destroyed a lot of jobs.
The income disparities in the 1920s were caused by other factors. Every economic era it's a different tool that the Plutocrats use to extract wealth from the rest of society.
As for the hyper-marginalization of average people, well, that points to Malthusianism and Social Darwinism. There is a school of thought that says in a population this big, average people mean nothing.
