Robt REICH nails 4 Stages of DRUMPF-*grief*. I'm Stage 2/Numbness. [View all]
I had figured out for myself the numbness condition before I found REICH's codifying, like this: What had gotten me through the horrible year and a half of the campaign was the carrot that I would finally be rid of all 17 of the Repuke FREAKS out of my life forever. Then came the unimaginable crushing. But after that, the daily outrageousness of the DRUMPF "transition," my mantra became, "What did anybody *expect*?!1" I immediately, like the first day, reached the point of Outrage-OVERLOAD, because what else could be expected. So news-in/news-out, just a sentence or two of background on each new FREAK being anointed, not really to see how bad the FREAK was, just to detect what new perverted twist DRUMPF was using.
And I called it myself being "numb" - neuropathy. But REICH offers a way out of each stage, which I really don't see myself accessing. Really, I see existential *DISASTER* of some kind way before 4 years.

Robert Reich: The Four Stages of Trump Grief
By Robert Reich
1. Normalizer Syndrome
You want to believe Trump will be just another presidentmore conservative and pompous than most, but one who will make rational decisions once in office. ....
2. Outrage Numbness Syndrome
You are no longer outraged by what Trump says or what he doeshis incessant lies, his cabinet picks, his bullying, his hatefulnessbecause youve gone numb. You cant conceive that someone like this is becoming president of the United States, so youve shut down emotionally. Maybe youve even stopped reading the news. ....
3. Cynical Syndrome
Youve become so cynical about the whole systemthe Democrats who gave up on the working class and thereby opened the way for Trump, the Republicans who suppressed votes around the country, the media that gave Trump all the free time he wanted, the establishment that rigged the systemthat you say, the hell with it. Let Trump do his worst. How much worse can it get? ....
4. Helpless Syndrome
You arent in denial. You know that nothing about this is normal; you havent become numb or stopped reading the news; you havent succumbed to cynicism. You desperately want to do something to prevent whats about to occur.
But you dont know what to do. You feel utterly powerless and immobilized. ....
