(16,698 posts)I'm saying the Party has the remnants of the Third Way message still in the ears of the voters. Candidates can try to walk away from that, but especially someone so closely associated with it will struggle to succeed. Especially among a population looking for "change". There is little "trust" in politicians at all in this country, and that makes it difficult to accomplish it with a position paper, especially after all the money making from speeches. Look even Feingold had the problem of being "last years answer to this years problems". Like I say, you have states that flip their senate parties year after year. You think that is because of their policy positions? It's the reputation they have built over years. Parties do that to, they build reputations. Among a minority of the voters, the democrats have built a reputation and their message has failed. "Failed" with a minority of the voters in a limited region of the country. But it has failed anyway.
