(11,766 posts)You cannot define "White" without pretty obvious exclusions. When you say Irish heritage you can mean people from Ireland or descendants who identify with some of their traditions. Similarly Mexican heritage typically shares some language and cultural traditions. Black Americans also have shared history, identity, and culture. Japanese Americans, Chinese Americans, etc... all have a similar situation.
Again, what is White heritage? except "not Black, or brown, or Jewish, or other excluded group". There is no shared cultural tradition except hatred of other groups.
I mean Germans had Germanic and Aryan (although this identity was totally made up) culture to emulate, but White people in America aren't exclusively Germans and they certainly are Aryans. They are just people who identify as "not Black, brown, Jewish or other excluded group."
To your point, the purpose of "PC" with respect to marginalized groups, is to achieve a level of dignity and respect equitable to the dominant culture. We just want equal consideration. The purpose of "PC" from the right is to maintain the elevation of the dominant culture. They think they have somehow earned the status and see any advancement of other groups as a threat to their dominance.
