He was just doing his job, making crappy TV. There's no way anyone could have predicted this.

Seriously: if I'd told people in 2005 about the coming shit show that's been 2016, people would have locked me up for my own safety. A sane person could not have guessed the 2016 Shit Show would have happened, and I doubt most writers of fiction could have made it up.
