There is clear-eyed acceptance of the fact that even if a couple adopt two sisters of color, they might not fully understand the world those girls will encounter outside the family. It doesn't reflect on their parenting skills, or their generosity in opening their home to the two girls. It is a statement of fact about the fact that many white people don't have a clue about the obstacles that face people of color.
