(67,510 posts)It's ugly green with ugly yellow lettering, and unless you cover it conspicuously with your hand while swiping it, it'll be visible even to casual, accidental observation. Certainly it doesn't require someone to be "spying" on "interactions to catch one in the wild." More like: eyes at least half-open and facing in the general direction of the register.
And if you do cover it with your hand while swiping, you make yourself pointedly conspicuous and will draw attention. Further, if the cashier doesn't realize what you're doing, they won't hit the "EBT" key on their screen, and you'll have to swipe it again.
In short, the card is seemingly deliberately made to be obvious and, by extension, embarrassing, much like the can't-possibly-miss-them discounted lunch cards I had to use in junior high.
