I read an article the other day, I think on Slate that "fake news" while not a good thing, is not the real problem. The author had stated that the right wing's successful campaign to decry once respected outlets (NY Times, Washington Post, etc...) as illegitimate has been more harmful to the discourse than fake news.

The author said that we have always had fake news. Just remember the Enquirer or other tabloids talking about Big Foot's baby, or Clinton being close to death, or gay, or both. Meanwhile, the right wing has convinced their followers that all news that does not fit into their mindset is not legitimate.

We do need to keep posting, but we need to make sure that we are not posting fake stuff and sticking to the facts.
