The Party of Denial [View all]
At first, he was just a joke - running against 16 mainstream Republicans. Contrary to what they might now say, none of them expected him to win the Republican nomination.
After he won their nomination, they kept thinking he was going to pivot and be a conventional candidate. It never happened.
Very, very few of them expected him to defeat Hillary Clinton. So they were willing to overlook all the problems with their candidate. No, he doesn't have to show his tax returns. It is not required by law. Why shouldn't a businessman be allowed to keep the business he has built over his lifetime?
And the god-awful things he called people and the crude manner in which he mocked them. One thing he was not - was presidential.
Yeah, he had to get rid of Paul Manafort real quick, because of his connections to Russia and the Ukraine. He simply moved into the Trump Tower. And then he had to pay a $25 million dollar settlement for his scam called Trump University. No problem there.
And then, he asks the Russian government to leak Hillary's emails. By using Wikileaks, they leaked DNC emails to the press and their candidate celebrated each and every one of them on their lamestream media.
Then he nominates billionaires to Cabinet positions, with no governing experience, and everything was A-OK with the Republicans. He's not a typical politician. He's unconventional. He's really not as insane as he sounds when he trivializes nuclear weapons.
Over and over, they made excuses for him. They are in deep denial about the dangerous sociopath they have put forth to lead America.
