Of those people that do not tend to have various degrees of autism or are LessWrong types (and that Venn diagram has a lot of middle).

Intelligent people make up their minds emotionally and come up with good reasons after the fact.

Less intelligent people make up their minds emotionally and come up with less good reasons after the fact.

You and your intellect were created by evolution. Knowing the truth does not pass your genes on. Having a working model of reality that maximizes the likelihood that your children reproduce a lot does. R or k.
