they are taking on the personality Trump and in the case of the Dems & Hillary running against Trump - and in the case of the press - they are reporting on Trump.
He is the 'useful idiot' that keeps the attention on him - and lets the Repugs get away with murder in the background - because they are not paying attention to them.
If the Repug clown car spent more time talking about their ideas vs. trying to compete with the name calling of Trump - perhaps Trump wouldn't have won the Repug nomination.
If the Dems & Hillary campaigned against the Repugs - and everyday - talk about how they stonewalled and gridlocked and gerrymandered, and used voter suppression, and wasted time repealing Obamacare every week, and held up the appointment of a SCOTUS judge, etc - instead of concentrating on Trump - they might have won the presidency and taken control of at least the Senate and picked up some seats in the house.
And now the press and the MSM needs to as djsunyc pointed out above in their post - talk about policies, what the Repugs are doing, how the hearings are going, and educate folks on that - and spend less time talking about Trumps tweets, his sexual proclivities and his real estate holdings.
The Repugs in the background - while the press is talking about Trump - are basically taking apart the government as we know it and will set this country back to pre-FDR times.
Sure - they need to stand up to the bully Trump. They need to walk out of pressers - like yesterday - when Trump attacked one of their own. They need to pull their power back from Trump and take control of these pressers and not let Trump bully them. If they have to - they need to ignore Trump - because that would drive him more up the wall - because his ego can't take a situation that is not about him.
And djsunyc is right Rachel is preaching to the choir. We need to get to those Fox News junkies and the deplorables that voted for Trump and point out to them - how the Repugs and Trump are taking advantage of them.
One way they could have started was yesterday - when Trump attacked the CNN reporter and he was threatened by Spicer to be thrown out of the presser - he should have persisted and continued asking his question and let them throw him out. That might have shaken things up. And when he got thrown out - the rest of the Press should have gotten up and walked out on Trump, shut their cameras off and let him stand in front of his fake file folders, flags and toadies - holding his groin - and left him speechless.
