An upside down American flag is not a sign of disrespect. It's a signal of distress.
There are well known authors and TV people who are either members of, or regularly read, DU. There are almost a quarter of a million of us registered here. Imagine if tens of thousands of inverted American flags appeared here on, or leading up to Inauguration day. And imagine if it were printed or publicized in publications, online, or perhaps on TV. Trump's evil elves would not fail to pick up on it.
Imagine if DU became one of the targets of Trump's tweet attacks. Wouldn't it be great if we made it to Trump's "enemies list." And/or to be despised by countless wingnut crazies. We could all proudly wear these things as a badge of honor.
We're in deep shit and we can't be complacent about it. There's not a whole lot many here can do. But at a very minimum, you can change your avatar for Inauguration day and the days leading up to the coronation of this orange madman.
You may march, donate, bitch, scream and live in frustration. But you can also change your avatar for a while.
Every day, I get appeals for money from the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Move on, and many other liberal organizations. Unfortunately, I just can't afford to donate very much.
But we can all change our avatars and that costs nothing. It's a free form of protest. Imagine DU displaying tens of thousands of inverted flags in protest.
C'mon gals and guys. Just do it.
