not until they or their favorite neighbors or church co-congregants are a month away from begging in the streets will they begin to reflect on how badly they fucked up.
and even then, they'll try to blame Democrats first and claim inevitability second before they cast shade on the GOP paradigm third.
the pain has to be real to them for them to even begin to go through the process.
then someone will have to step up to be the next FDR so we can re-do an entire 20th century worth of social, regulatory, and physical infrastructure they're planning on destroying over the next 2 years. hopefully we get it right this time, so it's a lot harder for them to take away the next time they "forget".

There wasn't a public option in the ACA, but should have been. It would have increased competition
