it came from the republicans, not the Democrats.

What President Obama went through the last eight years was a disgrace. The republican strategy was obstruction.

Now we hear voices from the media, and even some within the party, that we "need to be the adults in the room"

Where were these people the last eight years when we "were the adults in the room"? As far as the republicans were concerned they would NEVER compromise. That should have been apparent after the fist two years of President Obama's term as President.

The media went out of their way to falsely characterize it as "both sides were at fault".

When you are dealing with one side that literally wants to destroy the other side, the time for compromise is over.

While the phrase "when they go low, we go high", has a beautiful resonance, when they are trying to destroy you, you have to fight in order to survive.

This may be an offensive analogy, but during World War II, "going high", when Hitler was killing so many people would never have stopped the killing.
