Now, only the insane would say that the GOP cares about people of color; or that the GOP cares about poor people; or that the GOP cares about woman; or the GOP cares about the middle class.

There are two things that the GOP does care about: (1). Taking care of the rich; and (2) protecting their political seats.

Repealing the ACA - is going to cause a lot of hurt (but it won't cure stupid) - and because of that the potential impact to item #2 will cause them to seek some answer that will work. The Dems aren't going to help them and they really have put themselves in a box - so the only viable solution for them - is single pay.

Of course, if the GOP could vote on a bill that only Rich, Old, White men would be covered - then they would be in heaven. But because the great unwashed have the right to vote (as of the time of this writing) - they will realize that that base (rich, old, white mean of property) cannot keep them in office - once those that voted for Putin's puppet realize how screwed they are - item #2 will motivate them.
