In reply to the discussion: Bruce Springsteen cover band cancels plans to play at Trump inauguration gala [View all]Dark n Stormy Knight
(10,486 posts)I wonder if Bruce did actually contact them.
My husband and I were saying last week that Bruce should consider asking them not to play, but also offering to pay them the fee they're missing out on to skip it. That won't cover all their losses, but will help. Not only does a band's reputation take a hit for backing out of a gig, especially at the last minute, but B Street is also going to take a lot of heat from many of their fans.
Loads of Bruce's own so-called fans disowned him when he began speaking out directly in the Bush years. Many of them were shocked that he was a Democrat, which just goes to show you they weren't really paying attention.
Same with the B Streeters. How hard would it have been to figure that Bruce wouldn't want his music being any part of Drumpf's inauguration festivities? He's publically called the P-elect dangerous and a moron.
Bruce Springsteen says Donald Trump presidency gives him special 'kind of fear'
It's as simple as the fear of, is someone simply competent enough to do this particular job? Do they simply have the pure competence to be put in the position of such responsibility?
When you let that genie out of the bottle - bigotry, racism, intolerance, they don't go back in the bottle that easily if they go back in at all, he continued. Whether it's a rise in hate crimes, people feeling they have license to speak and behave in ways that previously were considered un-American and are un-American. That's what he's appealing to. My fears are that those things find a place in ordinary, civil society.
