there was something different about their prescriptions -- and the pharmacists could take them (and all the real Lipotor) off the market.
And any consumer who had been hurt by the fake medication had legal recourse.
But the fact that problems have occurred in the US with fake medication is not a good argument for adding to the risk with millions of prescriptions filled online from unregulated pharmacies purporting to be in Canada.
Tom McGinnis, director of pharmacy affairs for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said the FDA didn't determine if the fake Lipitor posed a health hazard. The bogus pills were removed soon after hitting the market, he said. "The tip-off came when users began telling pharmacists that the fake pills, unlike real Lipitor, tasted bitter," Mr. McGinnis said.
