N.C. legislators ask Trump to squash Amazon wind farm [View all]
A move by Republican state lawmakers in could have Avangrid Renewables reconsidering future investments in North Carolina.
Thats according to Avangrid (formerly referred to as Iberdrola) spokesman Paul Copleman, speaking after a retired military officer and 10 Republican leaders, including both Senate leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore, sent President-elect Donald Trumps transition team a letter requesting to shut down a $400 million wind farm in North Carolina.
The farm, which has turbines already spinning near Elizabeth City, provides power for Amazon.
Amazon Web Services has committed to getting 100 percent of the energy used for its cloud data centers from renewable energy sources. Amazon said it is on track to exceed its 2016 goal of 40 percent renewable energy use. AWS said it plans to be powered by 50 percent renewable energy by the end of 2017.
