is 'genuine' - if the media tells you for 17 years that everyone loves this person, then many people believe it of themselves. Propaganda really can work over a period, especially if you don't have access to opposing viewpoints. At least the UK allowed non-Diana worshipping viewpoints, and look how seriously some supposedly phlegmatic people took her death.
