(42,862 posts)... the "I-got-the-last-word-so-I-win" philosophy. As is often the case, if one looks closely enough and gives just enough rope... the actual motives reveal themselves with little effort and without needing much leeway for interpretation of intent.
A wise teacher once told me --- If you listen more than you talk, then you're more likely to learn something. Also, if you pay attention to what someone doesn't say or avoids saying (as opposed to what they do say) then that can be very revealing too.
Earlier I'd asked someone a simple and direct question. I phrased it in various ways and repeated it in a couple of different posts in case it was overlooked ("What purpose does it serve?" and "What do you expect to accomplish?" and "What did you think would happen here?"
and each time my direct question was ignored or dodged.
The fear or answering (or unwillingness to answer) tells me more than I need to know. There's an axiom that says "the facts speak for themselves" ... an apropos corollary would be "the silence speaks loudly too". Oh well.
