it was worth the gamble to have him shake things up.

It wouldn't take but 5% of his voters to become disgruntled and he'd be toast in 2020.

In terms of the larger picture, there's no such thing as American values, and it doesn't mean anything to be an American anymore. But we have to peddle that bullshit to win elections, so we need to run candidates who actually believe it enough to sell it convincingly.
