In reply to the discussion: No sympathy for Melania Trump. She pushed the birtherism lie as well [View all]lakercub
(669 posts)I freely admit I don't know much about Melania and I can't think right now why I should go out of my way to find anything out. I will leave Barron alone completely and I tend to leave the spouses of politicians alone too unless they really put themselves out there, at which point they are fair game. But, based on her behavior so far, I think Melania will be mostly a non-entity and won't inspire me to get too worked up.
But it's unbelievable how the right-wingers on my social media feeds right now are praising her up and down. To my certain knowledge, they know no more about her life than I do, yet every picture is an excuse to go on about how classy she is, how wonderful she is. So far I really only know three things about her.
1. She married a well-known womanizing narcissist. I can only speculate as to her reasons, and, in and of itself, it does not denote a lack of class, but it certainly doesn't make one classy (though I don't have to work too hard to think of highly un-classy reasons she would have married him).
2. She was a model who featured in many scantily clad photoshoots. Hey, her body, her choice. If that's what she wanted, it's not for me to say anything about it one way or the other. But it certainly doesn't fit in with the typical right wing definition of class.
3. Her only major speech was plagiarized. How much is her fault? Probably not much, but it certainly isn't favorable. And it sure as hell isn't "classy."
So my assumption is that they think she's classy because she looks good, dresses in expensive clothes, and she doesn't look like the last first lady. I'm forced to conclude that, based on the evidence, they feel rich, attractive, and white equals class. Based on what I know about most of these right-wingers, I think I nailed it.
