(57 posts)Nothing else makes sense. I started to have a bad feeling when the Comey situation started. Between the director and leaking subordinates, it became clear the FBI had chosen sides. Government bureaucrats are all about CYA, and for Comey to behave like he did, someone must have the goods on him, maybe the Russians, maybe the Republicans. It was the FBI that declared that the Democratic servers were hacked. Was it the Russians or did the FBI install the software that would both grab the emails and implicate the Russians? Reportedly, the FBI then went to almost every state to check for hacked voting systems. I am very interested in how exactly they did that. If they were thorough, they would have had to yank the EPROM from each machine and compare it with a clean reference EPROM. If the FBI didn't do that, then they can't claim that there is no evidence of hacking because they never even looked. If they did look at the chips, given that the FBI had picked sides, could they not have put in their own compromised chip? Then weird polls starting showing the results were close, which is how you know the fix is in. The results have to indicate a win greater that the recount %, but not be horribly far from the polls. My feeling is that because of Comey, the FBI is no longer entitled to a presumption of innocence and they should be excluded from participating in any investigation. The FBI definitely shouldn't have been sent to investigate the voting machines.
So Trump wins and we do a recount in 3 states, sort of. In Wisconsin, there was a hand recount of the ballots except in the districts where they didn't want to, presumably because it wouldn't go well. The republicans fought tooth and nail with the other 2 states, no doubt knowing a proper recount would not go well for them. Requests to examine the chips were refused, and one state had screwy laws that if the count on the ballot box, didn't match what was in the box, you had to go with what was on the box. Same as if the ballot box was tampered with, so the poll workers made a point of tampering with the ballot boxes. Basically, the recount provided zero confidence that the election was honest.
Having said all that, I think the low tech methods are what swung the election. Voter suppression being the top of the list. Absentee ballots with minority names not sent or tossed if mailed. People of color being sent to the wrong voting machines, or getting red pens for their optical ballots which cannot be read by the reader. Dishonest election workers. What people don't seem to understand is if votes and be screwed up by accident, they can also be screwed up on purpose. We need voting systems where even if an election worker sees your skin color, hears your voice, or sees your name and knows you are not in their preferred party, they are unable to trash or misdirect your vote.
