In reply to the discussion: Trump fans are furious after Jake Tapper posted a Bible verse about lying being a sin [View all]gratuitous
(82,849 posts)6. Pretty canny of Tapper
I didn't think he had it in him. But the verse from Proverbs hits Trump's ersatz Christian supporters on several levels (even though from what I can tell, Tapper didn't even refer to Lord Littlehands). First, of course, is having the Bible quoted back to them, because they think they own and control the Bible in its entirety, and they are the sole interpreters. Second, the verse is pretty straightforward. There's not a lot of wiggle room or context that can be brought to bear to avoid its plain meaning. Third, the use of the word translated "abomination," which these people would like to use exclusively for knuckling the homosexuals.
Well played, Jake.

Best to remember the admonition: Don't argue religion or politics. At least, in a family.

Can we give Trump and his followers some small island to run and then we get America back?

Like today's evangelical supporters, Trump is a Political Christian, not a Christian of faith.
