(17,584 posts)about trump supporters. Until now, I've had no one identify themselves as a trump supporter and I admit I had a profile of what that looked like, but now I'm totally changing my tune. A friend of mine said she voted for trump and I think my jaw dropped. We had a respectful but short (I couldn't trust myself not to alienate her altogether) conversation about him and from what I heard, her main reason for supporting him was that he had no experience with government and she thought that was a good thing. I asked her, "name a line of work where you would actually prefer to have someone with zero experience in that line of work" and that's when those sorts of people have no answer other than some simplistic meme such as "I don't care. I'm tired of all politicians." You can't argue or debate with that level of irrationality and ignorance. She's also a racist which is why she hates Obama. That was very clear to me. It had nothing to do with his policies.
At the end of that conversation, which I decided to cut short and change the subject, she said, "Well, I really don't know much about how government works anyway." There you have it.
I say all this to point out that we have got to stop thinking we can change these people's minds. It's a waste of our time and energies which we need desperately to fight this battle.
