However, I'm old enough to remember that in the late '60's when I was coming of age, a good number of people actually valued higher education, intellectualism, profound thinkers, good writers, etc. Or maybe that was just me and the people I hung around with. I also remember a time when, if someone didn't really follow politics or understand positions they would admit it and decline to vote because they felt they weren't qualified to make an informed decision. Hell, even I did that a couple of times in local issues/elections because I didn't feel I knew enough to make an informed decision.
