(57,757 posts)Any more than any other Trump voter? Because they lie to themselves by claiming to be progressive doesn't make it so, particularly when they support racism and Islamophobia. Hell yes, I'm mad. I'm mad that they worked to ensure Trump would come to power and terrify my Muslim friends, who now can't sleep at night. I will not absolve their racism and misogyny just because they don't have the honesty to admit what they are. You go ally yourself with fascists all you want, but don't you dare lecture me about being intolerant of their hatred for the millions of Americans whose lives they have endangered because of their self-absorption. They had the chance to stand up against injustice and they chose fascism. At best they are selfish idiots, only they don't acknowledge they were wrong. Even as the country has been torn inside out, they continue to direct their hated toward the Democratic Party and our nation's most vulnerable citizens.
What would you have me learn from people too selfish, stupid, and hateful to recognize an authoritarian despot when they see him? They chose to ally themselves with the Klan. They chose to justify sexual predation and white supremacy, time and time again. They are Trump's allies, not mine.
Or there are people who make those kinds of false equivalencies, voted for someone lke Johnson, and even in the midst of this madness talk about being friends with Trump voters. It doesn't enter their heads what it must be like to be deported or held at airports. Their privilege allows them to see the election as just about politics in the abstract rather than a life-changing and traumatic event.
You bet I'm angry. Anyone who looks at what is happening now and isn't angry has serious problems. That you presume to tell me that I am allies with such people is absolutely unacceptable.
