Joe Klein葉he ultimate smug moron [View all]

On Hardball, Joe Klein, the very worst of the self-styled centrists, offered what has to be the worst pile of "centrist" false equivalency ever deposited steaming on the national porch.

He equated Democratic attempts to provide universal health coverage and Republican attempts to eliminate Medicare as a "both sides do it" argument. Here's what he said (paraphrasing from memory):

Democrats try to change health coverage even though most people are happy with their health plan. Republicans try to eliminate Medicare even though most people are happy with medicare. Since nobody wants these things, why do the parties do it? They both respond to their big-money base.
