It's the story of the wise men and Herod, which they ought to have heard of if they reckon themselves cultural Christians. Matthew 2. The wise men from the East tell Herod they're going to Bethlehem to look for the 'new king', and so God warns Joseph and Mary, who flee with Jesus to Egypt, and stay there. Herod massacres all the children (or boys?) under 2 in Bethlehem, and the family stays in Egypt until Herod dies and it's safe to go back.
