(394 posts)In my 50's, I could still get work at tech startups run by GenXers. After a month, they'd be calling me Mom, coming to me with their boyfriend/girlfriend troubles and found me tolerant of their silly antics and a good sport about all the outrageous in their culture. However, when I reached my 60's with tech startups or dev teams run by Millennials, all bets were off. Couldn't even get past the first interview. Then it dawned on me that I was old enough to be their grandmother, not just their mother!
Now be honest...when you were in your early 20's, would you want your grandmother working on your team? Or be the boss of your grandmother at a company of 20-somethings? So, in a way, I can't blame them.
But, out of courtesy, they really should place 'millennials' somewhere in the organization title or in a tagline just below the title to define the demographic they were seeking. Sure, it wouldn't filter all the old folks out, but we've been around the block a few times. We know when not to be party-crashers!
So don't take it personally, ok?
